Have you ever felt that you did everything trying to lose weight and still that bulges and love handles never disappear? Then you begin feeling frustrated and hopeless.
Weight loss frustration is common but not many things are said or written about this reality. Let me give you some insights that may help you realize the causes of your frustration and how to manage it.
Frustration is an obstacle for you and it’s something you usually don’t want to have happen to you. We always want things to be “smooth sailing” and easy for us. We always treat things that if it’s easy then it is a sign we are on the right track and if things becomes bumpy then that tells us we’re not going the right way.
Our first reaction when hitting a “roadblock”, whether it be during an important project like a weight loss program or even just trying to finish a task, is usually disappointment along the lines of “Why does this always happen to me?” and “Why doesn’t anything ever work for me?”
It doesn’t have to be this way. By simply changing how you view the situation you can radically alter the ending. So, how can those annoying moments be valuable? Here’s how:
1. Problems can point out that you need to take a step back.
You can get so caught up in wanting to lose weight rapidly that you forget the reason why you started doing this in the first place. Do you just simply want to shed some fat or do you want to be a little slimmer to feel confident? Take a step back to look at the big picture.
2. Frustrations can be a sign that you need a break.
Your first reaction when running into a problem may be that you absolutely have to solve the issue right away. The problem with this is that you become absorbed on the feeling that the problem must be solved no matter what. It can result in so much stress that you just can’t come up with the answer. Taking a break may give you a fresh viewpoint and you may find that the issue wasn’t really that big after all. Also, after you’ve regained your enthusiasm, the obstructions may just disappear on their own with a solution suddenly seeming so very obvious.
3. Find something positive.
Even if you feel like nothing is working, look closely and you will most likely to find at least something that is going right. Yes, the results you wanted in doing lots of workout and almost starving yourself is not yet visible, but look at you now, your body is fitting into clothes you haven’t worn for a long time, you feel great, have more energy, are making new friends. Take yourself out of the negative attitude of “it’s hopeless” and you are back to focusing on the positive.
4. Take Action.
You tend not to want to work on it anymore when you get into seriously frustrated with a problem. It’s hard, it’s annoying, and you’re not getting anywhere. I remember what Thomas Edison said, “Many of life’s failures are those people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” To add more, you start to spend a lot of time worrying. Worrying is definitely a waste of energy and does not move you in a forward direction, only taking action will. Once you start moving forward again, you will be happy to find that you were worried for no reason.
5. Always stay positive.
Things are usually not as bad as they first emerge. Most of the time, things seem much worse simply because we are tired or mentally drained. Relax, take a deep breathe and give yourself a break and keep your sense of humor about you, it will help.
A positive mind will attract more solutions and answers than a negative one that thinks it’s just “hopeless.” A closed mind will not be able to see the feasible solutions when they do come along. So stay positive.
Like any problem, the solutions of effective ways of losing weight is to figure out what your options are, decide on a plan, focus, and then take action. By using the above 5 steps, you should find that you’re running into fewer problems and feeling less frustrated.
Life is not about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself. The most important thing is how you enjoy your weight loss journey.
